Ken Barr has been active in the UK comics industry for almost 50 years and is probably best known to collectors of UK comics as the artist who drew the covers for the early issues of Commando. In America, he worked for Warren, Marvel, DC and many leading book publishers but recently returned to his roots again with cover art for Commando 4138 (September 2008, see below).
The artwork, entitled "Para Sarg", shown above, is now being offered as a limited edition print by Comicsmagazines.com and Ken Barr, the first of a planned series of limited edition prints based on great British regiments and landmark battles and campaigns. The next planned print in this series will be based on the Long Range Desert Group. Future print releases will see work featuring Ken Barr military aircraft paintings. A series of Battle of Britain prints is planned for 2009, for example.
According to Tom King of Comicsmagazines, "Para Sarg" is a high quality A3 size print on 350 gram art paper, strictly limited to 275 prints, with each edition individually numbered and signed by Ken Barr. The print retails for £29.99 plus post and packing direct from Comicsmagazines.com. Retailers, however, are free to set their own price. The artwork can be viewed here.
