Chris Beetles Art Gallery is launching a new exhibition, The Illustrators: The British Illustration 1800-2008, on Saturday 15 November 2008 which is to run until 3 January 2009. Amongst the display of over 1,000 pictures are many works by children's book illustrators from Edward Ardizzone and Quentin Blake to Ernest Shepard and Sir John Tenniel. A number of artists who produced comic strips are also included, including Harry Rountree and George (Bonzo) Studdy, cartoonists Giles, Osbert Lancaster and David Low, master of the saucy postcard Donald McGill and dozens of others. You can find a full list here.

For Dan Dare fans, there are eight boards from the opening 'Voyage to Venus' storyline on display. You can see them at the gallery's website, here.

  1. This is obviously the classic stuff but I much preferred the early 2000ad Dan Dare - think this was drawn by Bolland.
