Today's papers (Times, Daily Telegraph) have announced the death of Major Tony Rolt, racing driver and, during the Second World War, a prisoner at Colditz who helped build a glider in order to escape the castle prison.
Reading the reports reminded me that the Look and Learn archive has a nice painting by Wilf Hardy depicting the glider as it would have been; in reality, American soldiers overran the prison and it was never launched.
