Novelisations on a grand scale. David Hewson is best known as the author of the Nic Costa series set in Rome. The Killing adapted the three series of the Danish TV series that performed extraordinarily well on BBC Four. Sarah Lund's jumpers became the subject of newspaper articles and, despite the quality of BBC Four's previous subtitled efforts, Wallander (Danish) and Spiral (French), The Killing cemented the Saturday evening slot for showing the best dramas from Europe and Scandinavia, everything from The Bridge to Inspector Montalbano to Salamander to Trapped. I can't think of one series that has been a disappointment.
