A short video tribute to the late David Slinn. There were some problems with the glare of sunlight through the curtains which caused the colour to appear streaky and bleached out, so I turned the whole introduction into black & white. Hopefully the next one will see some improvements.

Many, many thanks for making this video, Steve. I only ever interacted with David via email and an occasional phone call, but I wish I could have sat down with him and had a chat about his career, UK comics history and his love for the medium. He's a sad loss to the British comics community. I look forward to the next one with the anecdote about Joe Colquhoun. Hope you and yours are well :)
ReplyDeleteBecause most of our conversations were about other people, piecing together David's own career hasn't been easy. We know, for instance, that he worked for TV Century 21, but what did he draw?
ReplyDeleteI knew that he'd done some work for Girl, and he was Colquhoun's assistant for a time, but I never knew that he had also worked for TV Century 21. Like your interactions, our few conversations were mostly about others--trying to get more information about his own work was really hard, if not nigh on impossible. I think that he saw himself as more of an observer of comics history than a fully-fledged participant in his own right, almost as if his own contributions were somewhat besides the point.
