Stan Barstow, author of A Kind of Loving, one of a number of working-class classics that helped change the face of post-war literature in the late 1950s and early 1960s, died on 1 August 2011, aged 83.
Born Stanley Barstow on 28 June 1928, his later novels include Ask Me Tomorrow, Joby, The Watchers on the Shore and the trilogy Just You Wait and See, Give Us This Day and Next of Kin.
