Frank Bellamy's The Story of World War 1

Out now from Book Palace Books. Frank Bellamy's The Story of World War 1 is a companion volume to Frank Bellamy's King Arthur and His Knights: The Complete Adventures and Frank Bellamy's Robin Hood: The Complete Adventures, gathering together one of Bellamy's finest series from the pages of Look and Learn.

Written by Mike Butterworth and published in 1970, each of the 26 episodes of 'The Story of World War 1' was accompanied by a colour illustration by Frank Bellamy. The editor was aware that he had something special on his hands even when the series was originally published as he prominently credited both writer and artist on each episode.

This new edition features all 26 episodes, the text entirely re-set but retaining the style of the original pages as they featured in Look and Learn. With an introduction by Bellamy expert Norman Boyd, the book is available in full colour flexi-back format, limited to 1,250 copies.

The book is also available as a very limited hardcover signed by Norman Boyd and editor Steve Holland. This is limited to 175 copies and includes a limited, numbered print of one of Bellamy's original WW1 illustrations.

Reviews

"Bellamy's artistry is at it's most vivid here and although there is a limited use of photography in this amazing collection, it's Bellamy's ability to propel the reader into the heart of the action, whether it be the brutal and bloody hand to hand fighting of trench warfare, the high adrenaline thrill of diving out of the sun with Von Richtofen's Flying Circus, the horror of a gas attack or finding yourself on a pitching deck in the midst of the Battle of the Jutland, that really grabs the attention of the reader. Put quite simply these are pages you feel compelled to turn, and they are all brilliant - not a dud amongst them." Amazon.co.uk.

  1. Bloody marvelous production - you guys have done the most incredible job on this book.

It's going to be an essential addition to the bookshelf of any serious (and non serious for that matter) devotee of comic strip art.

  2. Hey, I know I did the intro, but remember that when I wrote it the book was just an idea. But when I saw the hardbacks and paperbacks, I was bowled over with the production values that Book Palace brought to this production. Showed to people at work and got great responses...even from those who don't like "comic art"!feedback@frankbellamy.co.uk
