Inspired by the ongoing spat over the copyright of one of Philip K. Dick's short stories, I dug out my copies of the five collections that make up the Complete Short Stories series. The series was printed twice in paperback here in the UK with the titles sometimes varying to tie-in with movies, Dick being one of the most popular sources for blockbuster SF movies — Bladerunner, Total Recall, Minority Report, Paycheck — and some not-so-blockbuster flicks — Screamers, Imposter, A Scanner Darkly and Next. There are at least half a dozen further stories in development or production, with an adaptation of Radio Free Albemuth shortly to be released (reviewed here).
As well as title changes, there have been some alterations to the contents of the five volumes of the Collected Short Stories since they were originally published by Underwood/Miller in 1987. Hopefully the notes below won't confuse the issue. I only have one edition of each book, so as a bonus I've thrown in the omnibus Three Early Novels because it was on the shelf right next to the others.
