Rupert of Hentzau part 1

A change of pace today as we present an abridgment of Anthony Hope's sequel to The Prisoner of Zenda, Rupert of Hentzau, originally published in 1898 and adapted in World of Wonder in 1971. I posted this back in March 2010 but we've now caught up with the series through the World of Wonder galleries that I've been featuring on Bear Alley these past few months. It deserves a second outing, so here's the first episode. You can rediscover the rest by clicking this link.

  1. Wonderful to read this adaptation of "Rupert of Hentzau" - the forgotten sequel.
Also good to see World of Wonder again - there were so many other magazines apart from Look and Learn in those days ,such as Treasure and one with the word 'Fact' in.
Is the artist John Burns the same person as the current artist in 2000AD?
Of course with both stories being adaptations, there are some strange leaps of logic & detail - such as the appearance of Flavia who was airbrushed out of the previous story adaptation and also the fact that the impersonation lasted 3 months rather than just for the duration of the coronation.
A beautiful spring day & Rupert of Hentzau from a classic magazine - does life get any better!?
