Cooking with Pooh

A little contribution to keep you smiling on Comic Relief day. Yes... that really is the title.

  1. Power fan says - made me smile. A comment from Joe S Walker on Lew Stringer's blog for the entry about the regeneration of Smash! says: "I'd love to read a full account of the rise and fall of Power Comics." - perhaps you should let Mr Walker know that you've written one?

  2. Mr. Holland,

Panini's Spanish branch is publishing this May the first of 3 volumes collecting the complete Hugo Pratt UK strips:

    http://www.paninicomics.es/StaticPages/PDF/PANINI_MAY09_prensa.pdf

    DIARIO DE GUERRA: HUGO PRATT
(WAR JOURNAL: HUGO PRATT) BOOK 1 OF 3
    Contains War Picture Library 25, 40, 50 and 58
Script: V.A.L. Holding, E. Evans/Alf Wallace, Fred Baker & Donne Avenell
    Art: Hugo Pratt
    Hardback book. 272 pages. 15 €

I have 2 questions for you: did you know about this project? and do you have any idea if Panini UK could be preparing a similar initiative in the UK? I'm asking because, as you probably know, Panini publishes simultaneously in several European countries and it wouldn't be far-fetched to expect them to publish this same book in other languages like English, Italian, German or French.

  3. Power fan,

I'm in the process of updating those old indexes, although it's a slow old slog to bring them up to scratch. I think I'm closest to completion with Knockout, although I'm still scanning images whenever I get the opportunity, and Lion, which still needs a lot of work.

The long-awaited Thriller Libraries book is hopefully on the schedule for this year, although I'm waiting on some additional information before compiling the index, which is the only thing left to do.

As for the Hugo Pratt, I'd love to see all the stories collected in the UK, although I somehow doubt if Panini UK would risk such a volume -- it's a sad fact that Pratt isn't a big name over here. When Ballad of the Salt Sea and The Celts were reprinted in the UK in 1996 I'm pretty sure both books ended up being remaindered.

However, it's nice to see that someone has taken notice of our War Libaries index ... at least the authors are getting credited.
