Maigret - the comic strip
Can anyone tell me anything about the above. Obviously it's based on Simenon's Maigret series of crime novels, but was this a reprint of the French strip that appeared in 1950-53, drawn by Jacques Blondeau or is it a completely new, perhaps previously unrecorded adaptation? The advert appeared in the late 1950s.

ReplyDeleteThere are a couple of tiny (and I mean tiny) scans here:

On the face of it I'd guess it was a different artist.

This all new to me - was never aware of this strip. Hey Steve any news on a second western strip collection?
ReplyDeleteGeorge: I've seen only one reasonably sized scan by Blondeau and it certainly looks like a different artist.
ReplyDeleteArchavist: no news on a second volume. I think it's looking increasingly unlikely as contents for these volumes have to be known by the end of January; a book is generally sold to the trade at least six months before it appears on the shelf and Carlton are probably already in the throes of finishing off their autumn catalogue. Shame... I'd have loved to do more of them.
Wherever it came from, I'd love to see more. Good find, Steve!
